Coastal & Marine Stuctures

Resolute Engineering to weather the extremes

Coastal and Marine Structures are incorporated in many of our waterfront development and erosion control solutions where steadfast performance is required. For long-term success, critical structures need to be carefully engineered, accounting for all relevant coastal processes and extreme episodic forces. We also strive to create designs that are cost-effective, environmentally sustainable, and aesthetic.

From concept through installation, Lally LLC prototypes, engineers and oversees construction of marine structures for a range of high- and low-energy sites. We have experience with breakwaters and revetments, piers, floating docks, jetties, and other types of floating and bottom-founded structures.

The types of Coastal and Marine Structures we design and construct include;

Nature-based Engineering, incorporating habitat-conducive components and geometries into marine structure design to promote properly functioning natural processes, ecosystem repair and recreational benefits, is a specialty area of Lally’s for over three decades. Also known as Bioengineering, Building with Nature®, or Engineering with Nature®, we have wide-ranging experience with green-gray and pure green solutions, and find creative ways to incorporate these concepts across an expanding range of coastal infrastructure projects, including;

Successful development, installation and operation of marine infrastructure, for the long-term, requires a significant amount of preparation. Lally LLC offers practical on-water knowledge and advanced academic training to create projects that benefit the owner, society and the environment. Specific planning-level services we offer include;

Lally LLC professional engineering staff assist our clients with the design of coastal and marine structures from concept through final detailed design. We apply accepted international guidelines, in-house and 3rd party numerical models, and practical knowledge on a range of coastal and offshore structures.

Engineering-phase experience Lally LLC offers to the coastal and marine infrastructure sector includes;

To help solve the complex technical challenges associated with siting, installing and maintaining coastal structures in dynamic marine environments, Lally LLC employs advanced 1D, 2D and 3D numerical modeling tools such as DELFT3D and other in-house models to simulate design-induced responses under varying hydrodynamic conditions. In doing so, a range of structure alignments, slopes, and components can be synthetically and efficiently evaluated to determine optimal structure design parameters.

Navigating the regulatory process to acquire and comply with environmental permits can be one of the more challenging components of coastal construction. Lally LLC has successfully acquired federal, state and municipal permits for our clients’ projects through comprehensive understanding of site environmental conditions and stakeholder requirements, and innovative designs to optimize performance while enhancing environment conditions.

Responsive communications with regulators and stakeholders, global experience with nature-based solutions, and contractor knowledge working in varied marine environments, have also served to facilitate successful permit acquisition and compliance for our clients.

Lally LLC has experience working with the following agencies in the acquisition and administration of project permits in the coastal environment.

Examples of Lally LLC permitting and environmental compliance experience provided to the coastal and marine structure sector include;

As former employees of North American and European marine contractors, Lally LLC has operational experience with the terrestrial and marine equipment and construction approaches used to install coastal structures. We can efficiently collaborate on important coastal and offshore infrastructure projects as Owner’s representative, project manager, or 3rd party advisor to manage risks, achieve optimal performance and resolve project technical and contractual challenges.
