California Legacy Waterfront Site
Intertidal Remediation Support Services
The former G&R Metals property, later known as the UPRR Waterfront Lease Site, in Eureka, California, is located along a busy waterway with sensitive nearshore habitat (eelgrass beds) situated just downslope of the remedial action areas. Both the upland site and the adjacent intertidal mudflats along this section of the slough were contaminated with PCBs, metals and PAHs from decades of use as a salvage yard, which included metals reclamation from transformers, automobile dismantling, and storage of batteries, radiators and other materials.
Lally LLC was requested by the remedial contractor to provide planning and environmental protection design services to support remediation of the site. Construction activities included demolition of structures, excavation of nearshore sediments, temporary storage and dewatering of dredged materials for offsite disposal, water treatment, and shoreline restoration.
Services provided by Lally LLC included review of contract documents, characterization reports, and project permits; coastal processes analyses; and development of a resuspension control plan, construction sequencing and production schedule.
