Dredged Material Disposal Alternatives Study
Lally LLC was tasked by a project stakeholder to evaluate dredged material placement options for various sites in the area of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel. The work included contract plans and specifications review, site operations history, evaluation of physical and chemical analytical characteristics of dredge material, means of dredging and excavation, environmental and physical impacts, and offshore and inland dredged material disposal alternatives.
Lally LLC personnel developed a Multi‐Criteria Analysis (MCA) to provide uniform assessment of the placement sites, both inland and offshore for a range of impacts or values, including;
- Suitability Evaluation
- Contaminant Bioavailability
- Endangered and Threatened species
- Environmental Windows
- Habitat (mangroves, seagrass, coral/hardbottom, oyster bed impacts)
- Water Quality
- Air Quality
- Noise
- Beneficial Use
- Construction Cost
- Construction Duration
- Placement Capacity
- Construction Risk
- Exposure to Severe Weather
- Navigation / Traffic
- Boating Safety
- Recreational / Commercial Fishing
- Hydrodynamic / Littoral Effects
- Public Opinion
Based on our research and analysis, Lally made recommendations on the optimal dredged material placement sites for the project, relevant permit criteria, and integration with other regional projects to advance the planning and design phases.
